For awhile now I have had near-death experiences whenever I water my flowers hanging on our front porch. It never fails. Right as I near the baskets a maniac bird flies out. It doesn’t just leave the basket, or at least that is the way it seems. It flies at me first, literally. I’ve been complaining about it taking residence up there to Adam, who finally checked it out yesterday. Look what he found!!

Six!! Yay! And, looking back at this picture from yesterday we can now see that the top left egg was already hatching! The next pic is from 24 hours later. Aren’t they the ugliest cutest baby birdies ever?!! Needless to say I have made peace with Bobbie the Mama bird. She now flies out of the basket as soon as we step on the porch, flies across the street and sits in the same tree in our neighbor’s yard every time. I have to say…I don’t think I’ve been this excited since discovering peanut butter! Doesn’t take much, that’s for sure!

Congratulations to our first-born niece for graduating with her Bachelor’s degree. Aunt Shana is feeling old….

I think these two photos depict the chaos that occurs around all of these kids quite well. Even the parents can’t cooperate and look at the camera at the same time!!

A few weeks ago while visiting my sister and her family my brother-in-law took several of the kids to a huge neighborhood garage sale. When they returned Madison proudly told us that she got a bunny….for only 10 bucks!! Imagine the look of disbelief on my sister’s face that a new pet was brought into the home without being discussed. If looks could kill! Rick’s response? A quick summary of what the lady told him before ~~tricking him~~ selling him the bunny…It’s breed is very easy to take care of…so easy in fact, it is just like a goldfish with fur! This was her major selling point. Needless to say, Butterscotch has been with them now for a couple of weeks and is not exactly LOW maintenance! It (as no one quite knows the gender) is so very soft and cute…I will say that!

Our spinach is looking fan.tab.ulous! Popeye would be proud. But. The neighborhood birds are taking liberties with our produce! Last year I researched what to do to prevent them from utilizing our garden as a restroom and got the idea to use old cds. We hammered old cds shiny side up all along the top of our trellises and the reflection deterred the birds wonderfully. The cds dulled over the winter, not surprisingly, and my plan was to just replace with fresh cds. Adam had way more grandiose ideas, though. And, so far it is working great! Have not found a single bird pierced to the board thankfully and the neighbors haven’t asked if we are doing some sort of medieval torture experiment.

Madison and Anna did awesome at the state junior high track meet last weekend. I especially like that they kept with the family tradition of using all of your assets to excel. When their older sisters Jordan and Rebecca were playing high school sports it never failed that we caught pics similar to these. Of course this specialty did not come from my sister’s side! There’s just something about their tongue that makes them go a lil’ faster or makes them a wee bit stronger.

We went to a ginormous track meet on Saturday for the nieces. For once the weather was perfect. Historically track meets are scorching or flooded. Saturday was a day for people-watching. We’re rural people. Country folk-and the various hats used to shield from the sun that were peppered throughout the meet grounds displayed our uniqueness well. Camo hats and cowboy hats (even saw some boots with spurs) were plentiful. Heck, there were even feathers. Yeah, feathers.

I admire this woman for her self-confidence. I don’t know if it was the orangeish-hue’d self tan she had, the rhinestone prom-style necklace, fantabulous sparkly shoes, gold-sequined scarf or the hat. Ah, let’s face it…it’s the hat. Totally the bomb! While I, myself am in awe of her brave style, I bet her child that was competing in the meet was less than thrilled. I can just hear it, “Moooooootherrrr”.

We only had a really brief period of time we got to see the moon as a storm was moving in on Saturday night. The whole super moon thing reminds me of Haley’s comet-one of those bizarre vivid childhood memories that I have. My girlscout troop went to see Haley’s comet. It was cold and I remember how yummy the apple cider was. Don’t remember much about the comet….just the cider.

So, the Husband has been complaining of his foot hurting for a year. Yes, a year. One would think that bein’ in the business that I am I would have taken care of this, right? Wrong. We have this understanding, Adam and I. At least I do-while he still tries to push me on it anytime there is something wrong with him. From the time I started practicing I have always been adamant that I will not treat Adam medically. Not only is this the ethical thing to do but I am bound to not think as clearly when it comes to my Love’s medical problems. On the flip side, from the time I have known this man, he is not comfortable with seeing doctors. Well….I shouldn’t say all doctors. Just the ones of the male species. Odd, huh? It doesn’t matter how many times that I reassure him that “He isn’t going to molest you, honey…he is just going to look at your ears”, he still prefers females. In Tecumseh, this was tough for a long time as I was the only female for years. Luckily, I have a female partner here.

Back to his tootsie. For the past year he has been complaining followed by my typical response, “have you taken Alleve? -or- why don’t you just see someone?”. The man’s response as always, “but I have you to take care of me”. And, the cycle continues….

Finally I buckled and made the guy an appointment with an ortho specialist and yes he was a man but Adam did go. Hmmmm….must have really been hurtin’.

One xray later and voila! A year-long stress fracture! Poor guy. I suck, I know. He has been wearing his boot for over a week and feels ions better already. I just hope the darn thing heals being this old of a fracture!
