Political preference aside

What?!

I read an article this morning that has me a tad bit bothered. I have never discussed my political views on this blog, nor do I intend to do so now; but this article did rub on a nerve so here ya are.

The state of Texas recently passed a law requiring all persons that go to vote in an election to present a photo ID at the time of voting. President Obama, however vetoed the law stating that it was unfair to the largely Hispanic population in that area. If they are legal citizens of the United States, should they not be able to get a legal form of ID? Even if they do not drive they can get a legal photo ID from the Driver’s Bureau for less than $20.

I guess what it comes down to for me is this: we need to show a photo ID to buy liquor or to get a library card….but NOT to vote for the leader of our Country?

  1. Yeah, I pretty well agree with you on this, and I don’t think it’s a racist attitude. Like you say, we have to show photo ID for so much else of our business. With all the voter fraud and trouble they seem to have counting votes, showing ID seems like a pretty basic way to cut some of our troubles off at the pass.

Then again, I haven’t really heard good arguments on the flip side of the coin. Maybe there are some…?
