the end of a teenage era

So Adam and I have been together forever. Well, since before we could drive which kind of gives you an idea of how long. For his 16th birthday I gave him two things (no, not naughty things~geesh!). I gave him a necklace and my class ring. That man has kept that necklace and ring around his neck since that very day, removing it only once to have it repaired when our nephew David accidentally grabbed it when rough-housing around and breaking it.

He’s been worried lately though that they are thinning. Not only are there several areas on the necklace that are thinning to the point that he is concerned could give way but on the inside of my ring where it hangs 24/7 is VERY VERY thin. You can see in the picture how thin it has gotten over the past 17 years (yikes~hated to type that number!).

So he took it off for now. We are on the quest for a new necklace and I am going to see if a jeweler can beef up the inside of my ring a bit…hopefully fairly quickly as he says he feels naked without it. Plus, it stakes my claim to him!

A leetle bity update

Adam saw the specialist again today. He has been done with all of his medicine for over 24 hours now. They see no more “issues” inside the eye. All is healed, they say. They sound fairly sure that he is recovered to his max at this point. We hope he is WRONG. We are still going to pray for more recovery.

Before the accident his vision was beyond perfect at 20/15. His vision is now 20/50 and they recommended he get glasses. We are going to hold onto the prescription for the glasses for a couple-three weeks and then decide what to do. I can tell Adam is disappointed. I am, too but…we have to remember that he still does have sight at least…it could have been a heck of a lot worse.

Yay!!!

You ALL rock!! SOOOO many people were praying for Adam yesterday and we both thank you immensely. I was able to get him into another specialist and things were changed up a bit. We are very thankful there is no tear to the retina or iris as that was initially a thought after I spoke with an opthalmoligist that specializes in burns to the eyes (he wasn’t available yesterday but WAS super nice and visited with me on the phone).

Last night when he held out his arms his wedding ring was blurry (of course I was just glad at least he could see it so he KNOWS it is there…teasing). He was having difficulty focusing even on a computer screen or a text message on his cell. BUT, today is a different story…MUCH improved he says. He is blessed, we are blessed and he wants me to tell you that he thanks you for all of your prayers.

Undoubtedly there will most likely be some damage with loss of vision but we are hoping for minimal minimal minimal so we’ll continue to hold on and wait and see. If anything gets worse again this weekend he will see that burn specialist on Monday.

Blessings to you all!!!

Shana & Adam

a little giggle for your day:

The blonde went to the eye doctor to have her eyes checked for glasses. The doctor directed her to read various letters with the left eye while covering the right eye.

The blonde was so mixed up on which eye was which that the eye doctor in disgust took a paper sack with a hole to see through, covered up the appropriate eye and asked her to read the letters.

As he did so, he noticed the blonde had tears streaming down her face.

“Look”, said the doctor, “there’s no need to get emotional about getting glasses.”

“I know”, agreed the blonde, “but I kind of had my heart set on wire frames.”

Please say a prayer

Good morning all~

Just a quick note to ask you to say a prayer for Adam this morning. His left eye has taken a turn for the worse. He says his vision is 75% worse this morning than it was before we went to bed last night and that he can only see a foot at the most in front of him. I am working to try and find a different/better specialist for him to see. There is a specialist that works on patients with burns to their eyes specifically but he isn’t available today!!! Ugh!

Dancing in the rain

Just a quick update on Adam. He is doing great!!! He was started on steroid on Monday and they have made the world of difference…he has eyes in there still people! And, better yet he can open them and is seeing pretty darn good. His left eye is still a little fuzzy at times and they are still “a little” sore he says. He actually has teeny little shiners now under each eye.

Mainly, though, he is celebrating his sight. Every once in awhile he’ll tell me…”look at me” and I’ll be all like I’m looking at you~is something wrong and he says he just wanted to look because he can. He told me last night that while it was raining yesterday he went outside and played with one of the dogs in the rain “because I could see the rain”. He keeps saying “I see you”.

Regarding his skin..he just says he always wondered what a chemical peel would be like. He is starting to peel a little bit and it is like dealing with a toddler keeping him from picking at it!

Thank you for all of your prayers~they definitely made a difference~
