Wedding fun

A family friend got married a couple of weekends ago in Omaha and baby Brother and his Wife flew in for the event as he was the Best Man. It was the first time we got to see the two of them since their wedding last August so we took a long weekend and got reservations and stayed in Omaha to join in the fun. It was a wonderful time. I sure do wish we lived closer to boy and Linden. I love them both dearly.

The wedding was that of a junior high friend of Jesse’s, Bryson to a beauty named Rachel. We have kept in touch with Bryson and his family through the years. A wonderful family and Rachel is a great match for Bryson.

I actually framed this photo and have it on my desk in my office:

Cirque du Soleil addicts

We are. Addicted to Cirque du Soleil, that is. And have been for 8 years now. Any traveling show we can get to we do. We love it! We went to Wintuk in NYC at Madison Square Gardens…a boy’s quest to find snow. It was a good one. We really enjoyed La Nouba at Walt Disney World as there were a lot of children actually in the show. Some of the traveling shows we have been to include Corteo, Delirium, Saltimbanco and Alegria (this is all I can remember off hand). In Vegas we have seen Mystere’ twice as that is Adam’s absolute favorite (I love it, too!). We’ve seen O which is based on/in water so is really awesome and Ka which is based around fire. Ka was good but not good enough we’d go see again. Love. Ahhhh, Love. That is by far my favorite. The first time we saw it several years ago when it first came out we didn’t understand any of it. It is based  on the Beatles. Now we know why we didn’t understand it. It was all sex, drugs and rock and roll then! But the music-oh, the music and the show was fabulous so I knew that on this trip that was the one thing I definitely wanted to do again was go to Love one more time. So, we did. And it was even better this time around!

Sadly, Cirque du Soleil disappointed us, though. We had been anticipating the new show Elvis. And I mean anticipating it very much so as in Adam grew up right next to Graceland and we spend A LOT OF MONEY on good tickets for this show. It was horrible. The only thing they DID do right was tell the story of his life. Otherwise they slaughtered his music. I shouldn’t put it like that, I guess but it just wasn’t done right. They had other people singing his music instead of using his own tracks (like they did with the Beatles). It was just so so disappointing. So NOT Cirque du Soleil. Directed very poorly. And, oddly I know that his daughter approved it because I remember reading that somewhere.

Anyways, I have my eye on a show coming to Denver next winter….road trip?

Protesting

When we moved here we planned on putting up one of those fancy white solid privacy fences in the back yard so the dogs could have the run of the place. We quickly noticed that no one in this neighborhood had fences. No. One. And people have dogs. Big and little ones. As we met our neighbors we would casually mention our plans to install this fence and would receive comments such as “oh no, really?” or “really? I really don’t like fences.” or my favorite was the most popular by far where the person would just look at us blankly and say “hmmmmm”.

We decided obviously this neighborhood isn’t a “fence” neighborhood, whatever that means. Remember this was right before winter when we moved in and all we knew is we had to figure something out so the dogs had a way to at least enjoy the outdoors without being on a leash. We decided to do an underground wired fence, which Adam installed. The dogs where these collars and when they get too close they here a warning beep and if they get to their boundary they will actually get shocked which sucks quite frankly. They have broken through it a couple of times, usually to chase a rabbit and when they do it they are running so fast they don’t get shocked. It only works if they leisurely cross it.

Fast forward to this spring and we think we have it figured out now~the whole no-fence in the neighborhood thing (hey-that could be a song). We are seeing kids playing across yards. Football games across two, even three back yard spans. Kids run through back yards to get to other houses. Our fence would have stopped that “openness” which I appreciate much more now.

The dogs usually don’t sleep in our bedroom but it has been a really stormy week so we took their collars off so we didn’t hear them itching all night and let them in the other night. Adam was gone the next day and I was too lazy to put them back on. Go figure. This is what we came home to:

Kind of reminds us of when we got our first pup, Hastings (Gosh, we miss that gal). We went to a bookstore and bought a hard-back book about how to train a puppy and the first time we left her alone we came home and the book was shredded to pieces. Pets. Heh heh. We think we are their masters. Yeah, right.

feeling watched….

This is the view from where I sleep. Every night. That is a flat screen TV mounted at an angle in our bedroom that we occasionally watch movies on with a black light mounted to the top of it. I had to use the restroom in middle of the night and decided to photograph it with my cell phone. Not the best picture, I  know but you get the idea.

All I keep thinking is from one of the times when Adam and I were in NYC and went to the David Letterman show and Letterman said “It’s the creepy eye” about the CBS logo. That thing…it keeps staring back at me. All night long.

For quite some time now I have woke up to feeling Adam shaking. More of a tremor really. In his legs. And he is sound asleep through it and when I kick him or shove him it stops. I’m at peace with the idea that it is probably restless leg syndrome….a mild version of it as it doesn’t happen every night but the man doesn’t buy it. He’s got to see it for himself. So alas, the black light (he actually started with an infrared light….at least now I know where the light is at!). AND, a camera somewhere over in his corner of the room (I think)….maybe two cameras to record him sleeping when he moves. This has been a work in progress, folks. First the lights was hanging from the ceiling fan and only went on with motion. Not good, I tell ya….according to him anyways. Then it just sat next to his head. Didn’t work either for some reason. Now it is just on ALL NIGHT. Kind of like we have a little swanky love scene going on in there but we are both asleep and usually go to bed at different times! Ha!

“It’s the creepy eye!”
