This past Saturday I got to watch my niece play in a volleyball tourney. She is a senior this year and excels at both volleyball and basketball. They won the tournament and I think she is pretty darn good…no prejudice here AT ALL. I was a little envious of the parents who were lugging around stadium seats as I developed bleacher butt but oh well…

1:3 are sexually assaulted

Wow, I just returned from a day-long conference about sexual assault. I really wanted to just post a quick fyi about a couple of statistics brought up at the conference. Crazy, crazy I tell ya. I have been very lucky as I have only had to do three rape exams in my career. They have these “rape kits” if you aren’t aware that we use on patients that have been raped and the entire experience is awful. It is violating the poor victim all over again.

At any rate, one of the MOST startling stats brought up today is regarding college men. This is scary to me as I have a niece in college and another on the way. 75% of college men admit to getting a date drunk/high to try to have sex with her. WOW! 75%! FYI, Jordan & Becky!!!!

Where have we gone wrong? Check out this shirt for sale at Wal-mart. (After many complaints they took it off the market). I mean, this is Wal-mart, people. Come on!!!

Or, what about the “Buck Fuddy” shirt or the “Female students wanted for sexual research” shirt both from Abercrombie & Fitch? Geesh! These are places we all shop at. Very very sad.

Rocks for sale

For years, or decades rather, my mother has (proudly) told people about how I used to paint rocks and try to sell them and she was always my only customer.

When I was little we lived “in the country”. Nevertheless we as children refused to give up the opportunity to make money with lemonade stands or painted rock stands. The problem was lack of customers of course because of our distant locale. This is where the mothers came in…with their change and purchased our product.

My mom stopped by the other night and what does she bring for me? Yep, you got it…a painted rock. She kept it for the past 28 years! Probably the best dollar she ever spent! I mean check it out…it is tri-colored!

“Kids Count!”

<p>Okay, trying to be a bit more positive today. So, here goes…</p>
<p>This past Saturday was our 4th annual “Kids Count!”. I developed this event and it has grown each year. It is a health and safety EXPO for kids of all ages and is well attended. I just have to post this picture! We’ve had McGruff here every year but NEVER has he been this talented!</p>
