She’s one tough gal

I’ve blogged before about Adam’s mom going back to school. For the past few years she’s been working so hard to become an RN and she did it! We spent some time last month in Mississippi to celebrate her. She is an amazing woman. I remember nursing school and how ridiculously tough it was….and I was 19-20ish. They try to weed people out purposely. It has been a long tough haul for her…and Adam’s Dad. I know that he has sacrificed a lot these past couple of years too. His parents are amazing people and I have more pictures to show about some things they are doing in another post.

We do not travel much anymore, therefore do not get down to see Adam’s family very often. When we do, it is a whirlwind of trying to fit in seeing as many folks as possible. Inevitably we always miss one or two and are disappointed. This trip, in particular, to me was a little different. I really wanted to focus on Mom’s graduation and the girls (our nieces) which I will blog more about too.

But I really want to share these graduation pictures. After all, this woman deserves to be bragged about:

Married almost 40 years!!!

Fred and cousins that marry cousins

Having recently returned from Mississippi we are enlightened. By our nieces that is. Kids are so darn smart. First off, before we left my sister jokingly said “so you’re off to the state where cousins marry cousins, eh?”. I made this comment to our nieces down there while visiting. Their reply, “Nooooo, Aunt Shana….That’s Arkansas”.

Next, we learned about Fred. We took the girls shopping and saw shirts everywhere with Fred written on it and learned about this kid who is making tons of money by….well, basically being annoying I guess. We promised the girls that as soon as we returned home we would watch a Fred Youtube video so here ya’ have it (I especially like the whole turn your head and cough part):

So I have to say that Fred IS annoying. But I also said that about Napolean Dynamite and he kind of grew on me after awhile. Hmmmm, wonder if this kid ever would? Doubtful.

A wonderful mom-in-law and a new RN

 Being a NURSE means…

You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
You will be surrounded by challenges.
So much to do and so little time.
You will carry immense responsibility
and very little authority.
You will step into people’s lives
and you will make a difference.
Some will bless you.
Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst…
and at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed
at people’s capacity for
love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin…and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs
And devastating failures.
You will cry a lot.
You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human
and to be humane.

When Adam and I married his mom was working part-time as an LPN and has done so periodically over the years but has always thought about going on in school. She did it. She graduates in May as a registered nurse and plans on going on even. I believe she wants to teach nursing students actually. We are very proud. She was on the front page of their newspaper last week announcing that she was selected as the single student who represented the mark of excellence throughout the three campuses this college has and that she is their new Academic All-Star. We will be there in May cheering her on.

My message to her is this: remember that as a nurse you can make or break your doctor/midlevel’s day. =0) Literally. I have learned the value of a good nurse immensely since practicing medicine. Just as there are lousy doctors/midlevels out there, so are there nurses. Wherever you work will be blessed to have you. Your honesty, eagerness to help and competence will be a huge asset to any medical provider that has to rely on you as his/her eyes and ears.
We love you. xoxo
