Oh, Crappy Day

I just need to say I had a crappy day today. And, I love my mom. Weird, I know to write those two sentences back to back.

We checked out of the hotel this morning (STAYCATION OFFICIALLY OVER!), I had an abused patient this morning in the clinic, I picked Kalia up in Omaha as I mentioned below and money is NOT GOOD right now and then I just had a run-in with someone puking up spaghetti (sorry for the visual but that is what happens in medicine).

And, we are now at home as I mentioned. The SAME home that I love at times but despise at others, such as now. I look around and wonder what did we do? Why did we buy this place? And, how has my mother kept it in her to come here each day to help us with it? She is here early in the morning and staying until late in the evening. She is working, cleaning, fixing, loving…whatever she can do and all I could do tonite when she left is cry.

So, I end this day with a prayer to God for strength. Strength for my patients that are weak. Strength for my family, especially my husband and my mother. And, strength for me so I don’t give up because I REALLY want to.

…the staycation continues

We are overwhelmed. Things did not go as easily as we hoped last week with the floor refinishing. We thought we could start walking on them Thursday night but we misunderstood. It will take another 2-3 weeks for them to finish curing so we can’t put any furniture back on the floors but we can now walk barefoot on them at least. Our bedroom itself happens to be the only room in the home we carpeted but where do you think we put all of the stuff that can’t be on the wood floors?

A glimpse into our bedroom

Yep, our bedroom is a mess, the bathrooms and entry way are stocked full of stuff because they are tiled floors. It’s a mess and VERY overwhelming~did I already elaborate on the overwhelmingness of the situation?! So, we continue to reside at the local Super 7, at least through Thursday for now…On the bright side, that means I have got to watch two more NFL games on tv.

The Finished Floors! Ahhhhh….

Below is just a glimpse of our finished floors. We are still in the hotel so I do not have access to all of our “before” pictures showing the state the floors were in before. Let me just say they were awful. Dark, grungy, stained, deeply scratched in many places. These are the original floors from 1910 that were mostly covered when we bought the house and started ripping up the carpets. We are giddy with excitement at how beautiful they are!

Our Staycation

We are on a staycation of sorts, a “vacation close to your home”. They are re-finishing our floors so we are banned from our house until Friday essentially. The trouble with this vacation is that we are each working each day and there really is nothing vacation-like going on. Besides the fact that the hotel has a tv. If you remember in one of my previous posts we got rid of tv, cable actually. It was SOOO nice to watch the nfl game last night. It’s really weird to have 40 some channels to flip through and, no, there still isn’t anything on.

What’s even more weird is that the local hotel where we are staying is literally a couple of blocks away from our home. And, its called the “Super 7”, literally. It used to be a Super 8 but was bought by an Indian family (not Native Americans, actual Indians). They are very hard to understand and rumor has it that there are buddha statues and incense in the back room. All of the brochures, etc in the room have the number 8 crossed out with a 7 written instead. Too funny~our staycation that is.
