livin’ on the edge

Adam and I are dare devils, I tell ya! We are just wild! We take risks and do all sorts of crazy things! Like drive fast….

Unbeknown to us my Mother-in-law’s speedometer acts up occasionally. We spent some time in Mississippi this past week and weekend and took Adam’s Pawpaw to the Carter cemetery and on our way home we were flyin’ I tell ya. Funny, it didn’t feel like 120mph. Pawpaw said he hasn’t lived that recklessly in years! Glad we could give the ol’ guy the ride of his life!

My nurse, my friend

Today we are traveling. We just finished driving through the deserted brown plains they call Wyoming and have our sights set on a small town south of Boise, Idaho. Oddly, though I LOVE to travel and see new places and explore, I hate the process of getting there. Driving, riding, flying. I am impatient-an immediate gratification type of girl. I get bored, bored, bored. But today is different. Today I am honored to be able to ride these 1,000 miles. I am happy to sit in this SUV for 13 hours. You see, my Husband is sitting next to me. I can touch him, talk to him, look at him, kiss him.

Today, we have a good friend who cannot do this.

We lost a good friend unexpectedly a few days ago. Phil and Deniece have been friends of ours since 2001 when Deniece was my very first nurse EVER in Great Falls, Montana. Theirs is a friendship that although we never see them our hearts still swell when we talk about our memories of time spent with them.

Deniece and Phil have two beautiful children. Phelicia, who attends the Univ of Alaska and little Logan, an 8 year old that still deserves to have his Daddy around. Deniece and Phil are awesome parents. Adam and I always talk about how we want to do things similarly to them. They were always looking for adventures to take the kids on. Short weekend jaunts to check out little nearby towns, barely-known little restaurants, zoos, fairs, parks. You name it and they would find it. Phil was in the Air Force and put in his time-I mean, literally put in his time. In fact, just this past year he was able to retire with full benefits but still stayed on working at the base on the side but had accomplished their goal….to retire with the Air Force. Their goal was to do this and then “really” settle down. They bought their first home last summer. A gorgeous one! Six months later, Deniece is now widowed.

I have yet to find out the details but I know it was quick and involved his liver and kidneys. I know Phelicia was home and with her family when it happened. I know it isn’t fair. I know that both Adam and I have been weeping. We weep for Deniece and their beautiful children.

So I don’t care if it is a 2,000 mile trip, bring it on. Our friends are worth every last mile and more.

Farewell, Phil….thank you for the memories and thank you for taking care of your wonderful family. We’ll see you again one day…

Political preference aside

What?!

I read an article this morning that has me a tad bit bothered. I have never discussed my political views on this blog, nor do I intend to do so now; but this article did rub on a nerve so here ya are.

The state of Texas recently passed a law requiring all persons that go to vote in an election to present a photo ID at the time of voting. President Obama, however vetoed the law stating that it was unfair to the largely Hispanic population in that area. If they are legal citizens of the United States, should they not be able to get a legal form of ID? Even if they do not drive they can get a legal photo ID from the Driver’s Bureau for less than $20.

I guess what it comes down to for me is this: we need to show a photo ID to buy liquor or to get a library card….but NOT to vote for the leader of our Country?

20 Years of Romance

Saturday was the 20th anniversary of my Love and my first date. We were children-a mere 15 years old. I wish I could remember all of the little details; was I nervous, how did I dress etc. There are a couple of solid memories for both of us though. First, during the movie Adam kissed the back of my RIGHT hand. I boldly state RIGHT as it has been a 20 year argument that he believes it was my left hand. His rationale? That he knew someday we would be married so OF COURSE it was my left hand.

Next, of course due to our youngness we had to get rides from our parents to our date. It was grand meeting at the Mountain Mall Cinema!

Finally the movie was pure romance at its best. We actually celebrated this past weekend by going to Lincoln, staying in a nice hotel and doing a little shopping and eating and then returned home to watch THE movie. The one that started it all foks.

Wayne’s. World. Two words. Boy howdy, Adam had me at the point in the movie when Wayne states “sh’yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt!”. Romance. I guess as a teenage girl my level of sophistication didn’t go very high. But the date was fabulous as it was care-free and throughout our courtship Adam continued to provide these types of experiences-providing times of peace and happiness in my adolescence when it was most needed.

I love how I still giggled at this movie on Saturday. So very silly. Just like Dumb and Dumber…which we saw after Adam proposed! Again~ROMANCE, baby!

I love you Adam Kent, always and forever. SHMILY

Video Transfer

Well Shana has not created a post for a few months, and I started thinking that I should post something. After all it is AdamandShana.com so here goes my first try at it.
We have 4 old 8mm camcorder tapes that I wanted to get transferred over to my computer. The first one that I transferred over was our wedding video I got the 2 hour long video transferred to my computer with no problems. Then I also transferred the second video with no problems. Then got to the third video, I put the tape in and started the transfer, then the video camera (the one I was using to transfer the tapes) died! You think I would have been expecting it because I did buy the video camera on ebay and they left a tape that had a  home video of a lady giving birth in the camera. NO JOKE the entire birth. Anyways the eject function is electric, so I had to take the entire video camera apart to get my tape back out. The tape only suffered minor damage.
