Now this is something we can ALL be proud of!

A story from CNN yesterday: Why Toilet Paper Belongs to America

When you run out of tp and have to go to the store to buy some have you ever wondered why we don’t just stockpile tp? I mean, lets face it…we’re always going to use it. Why don’t we all buy it by the hundreds…

The CNN story says, “Since the dawn of time, people have found nifty ways to clean up after the bathroom act. The most common solution was simply to grab what was at hand: coconuts, shells, snow, moss, hay, leaves, grass, corncobs, sheep’s wool — and, later, thanks to the printing press — newspapers, magazines, and pages of books.”

Apparently the most popular method of cleansing one’s nether regions was with the Sears Catalogs that used to be put out. For any of you that know Adam you know that he willingly admits that he would NEVER make it on Survivor. Why? Not because he wouldn’t be willing to eat bugs, swim with snakes, etc but because he…shall we say, requires a special type of tp for his bottom? He was thrilled to hear that the very first type of tp created was actually infused with aloe as that is the ONLY type he will use now~a joke amongst many!

Further in that article it says that the average American uses 57 square of tp in a day. Geesh, poor environment.

All in all, we should be proud as Americans that it was right here in the United States where tp was created! Take that North Korea!

Adam’s photography

For those of you that know him you know that Adam has a passion for photography. This started somewhat surprisingly several years back. It actually started when he was taking photos of the nieces/nephews at their sporting events. One thing led to another (ie: bigger camera) and here we are. I am told (at least he hints at me…) that he still needs a different flash by this fall for our niece’s senior year Volleyball and Basketball!

At any rate I am finally getting around to posting some of his photos. He does it just for fun. Check it out under the photo gallery.

We’ve been robbed!

Well, not really but kind of! This is kind of a follow up to my previous post. Adam LOVES to snorkel! A couple of years ago while we were vacationing in Minnesota he was snorkeling away…yes, in a lake. Strange, I know but he just loves it. Anyway, he came up screaming and ran out of the water and his nipple was bleeding. Yep…you got it. A bluegill bit his nipple.

And, then we see this book published last year and we think…geesh, we should have sold his story~we could have been famous!!

Our one chance of being famous and we missed it!

Anyways, poor guy…to this day when he snorkles he has a fear of something getting his nipples…someone should invent snorkeling nipple covers.

Snorkeling

My husband loves to snorkel. Absoultely loves it. So much so that if he goes on a road trip he’ll throw his gear in the back of the car “in case” there is a lake he wants to stop at for a bit. I’ve been snorkeling…only in Hawaii though~the kind of place where snorkeling was created for. Below I’ve posted some photos from when we snorkeled in Hawaii that we took and some that he took a couple of weeks ago snorkeling at a local lake here. Yuck!!! I couldn’t do it~nasty!

The russians are coming…

All of this mess with North Korea has me reminiscing about the Russians. Adam told me the other day that he thought I should go stock up on canned goods..this is after North Korea threatened to send long range missiles to “wipe” the US out.

You see, when I was a child the cold war was active which meant the US vs. the USSR (weird to say USSR instead of Russia!) for the most part. At any rate…my father, a Vietnam veteran had an intense….shall we call it a “fear” perhaps of the Russians.

It certainly made for an exciting (and I am sure I was sometimes fearful although fortunately do not recall) childhood. No, we did not have a bomb shelter. But we did have EVERYthing else. And, I mean it!!! I had my very own fitted gas mask. How many kids get to say that…We had months of stockpiled food and life supplies, all stored in these five gallon white buckets. To this day, the buckets are a great source of humor between my siblings and I and a great source of stress for my poor Mother.

I remember one particular day when we went to this huge grocery store. It was like a grocery warehouse…probably like Sams clubs are today. I was riding in the seat of the cart. The main thing I remember is cases upon cases of tomato soup. The lady checking us out looked at me and smiled. She said, “my you are buying a lot of food” to which I replied…”Yes, the Russians are coming to dinner”. Ahhh, the innocence of a child. The last time I was at my Dad’s (granted this has been probably at least five years) there was still some of that tomato soup left!
