A friend of mine recently ended a post on her blog with a quote that I put up in my Lamaze classes and was wondering if I knew where it came from. Here you go, Lori…plus some of my other favorites. I have these all printed on white card stock and then on different brightly colored pieces of paper and then laminated, all different sizes. They, plus other different affirmations get rotated throughout each of the four classes.
Babies are such a nice way to start people! -Don Herrold
Just as the body knows full well how to make this baby, the body also knows how to birth this baby. -Gayle Peterson
We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful…It’s that women are strong. -Laura Stavoe Harm
The future is not something we enter…the future is something we create. -L.I. Sweet
Trust your body and move to your own rhythms during your labor and you WILL be a powerful being (this one I don’t know who spoke it)
Just as a woman’s heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth. -Virginia Di Orio
Not only do I love babies but I am passionate about the entire childbirth process. About making it the mother and her support person’s experience. It is all about them. I love to teach women about ways to make their vaginal birth a success and make it theirs. This if why my partner and developed Births R Us. We became certified through Lamaze International which was a WAY bigger deal and process than we imagined but in the end I know it was worth it. In fact, since the beginning of our program almost two years ago EVERY woman that has attended has had a vaginal delivery (not bad if I say so myself considering the csection average nationally is 32%!).
In the last class we teach about breastfeeding and for the past two years I have, hmmm, how should I put this…to some extent used my own breast for the teaching (keeping it clothed of course!). I asked my wonderful mom-in-law if she could make me a breast and she came through for me as usual! It came yesterday JUST in time for class last night and I. LOVE. IT!
It goes great with the uterus that one of my nurses knitted for us! Anyway, mom-in-law…feel free to send another or two (hint hint)…the class loved it! Adam commented on how it seemed kind of “lumpy” and my response was, what boob isn’t?!
